Tillandsia, known as "air plants" are tropical plants from South and Central America, Mexico, and limited areas of the USA on the border of Mexico, that grow attached to trees, rocks, and even cactus plants, absorbing all their nutrients and water from the air. These exotic plants are highly collectable and may be grown attached to driftwood, shells, rocks or from hanging wire or baskets. They do NOT grow in soil. These plants have a very unusual appearance and will have very colorful booms. When the plant blooms, the leaves also turn different colors called "blushing".
There are over 600 different species. Many are suitable for use in terrarium/vivariums and may also be grown in a sunny window or even outside in the spring and summer. Over the next four weeks, Aqua Botanic will bring into stock several species including some in bloom. Check back often to learn more about these fascinating exotic plants.
